what is beer pong?

Beer Pong is a drinking game commonly played at college parties in the US where the players throw a ping pong ball across a table trying to land it or make a shot into a cup of beer. The game has two teams, two or more players at each team standing at each side of the beer pong table.

Six or ten cups with beer poured half way are placed in a triangle shape on each side of the table at the beginning of the game. When the game starts each team tries to shot the ball into the opponent’s cups, if they made the shot, the other team must drink the beer from the that cup and remove it from the table, the first team to eliminate all the cups of the opponent’s cups wins the game.

You can either have the two players of the same team take their shot before moving to the other team’s turn, or you can alternate between teams after each shot. There are different sets of rules depending where you play the game, every region of the country or even every college has its own house rules and they change a little bit from place to place, like distance you must throw the ball, how the cups are placed etc. But the basic rules are the same everywhere you play the game.

There are a few throwing techniques that are known to be best for making the shots:

The Arc shot, where you throw the ball high in a lob shape and try to make it right from the air.

The Fastball, where you throw the ball hard and sharp at the cups trying to squeeze it in one of them.

The Bounce Shot, where you throw the ball that it will bounce once on the table in front of the cups and lands inside one of them.

What is a beer pong table?

The beer pong table can basically be any table that you stack the cups onto and play the game, but in recent years there is an official size tables that people like to use as the world series of beer pong championship ( real thing ) use. The dimensions are: eight feet long, two feet wide and about 27.5 inch tall. The surface is usually liquid proof for obvious reasons.

Origin of the game

Beer Pong was reportedly created in Dartmouth College during the 1950’s and 60’s in the fraternities. The original version of the game was played on an actual Ping Pong table with a net and everything and included one or two cups in each side. It was played with paddles where each player use the paddle to try and shot the ball inside the cup. Sometime in the 80’s the paddles were dropped and players started to throw the ball and the name Beer Pong was beginning to take it’s place.
